Norsk Energi is a leading centre of expertise in the fields of energy, environment and safety. We support both Norwegian and international companies with consultancy, planning and design services, audits, studies, technology development and training.

Our organisation is primarily linked to projects that reduce energy consumption and harmful emissions, like energy efficiency in district heating and energy intensive industries, and fuel switch from fossil fuels to biofuels. We have expertise on climate change mitigation projects, and develops Project Idea Notes (PINs) and Project Design Documents (PDDs) in annex 1-contries (Joint Implementation) and non-annex 1-contries (Clean Development Mechanism).

Norsk Energi is an association for both industrial companies and public enterprises, headquartered in Oslo with branch locations in Bergen and Gjøvik.

JI and CDM projects
Our strategy at Norsk Energi is to offer services where we are known to be specialists and have a track record to prove it. In real terms this means that we focus on Joint Implementation (JI) and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in the field of renewable energy, energy savings and environmental improvement. We also have a geographic focus, based on our long-term experience and know-how, with emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe, the Russian Federation and other CIS countries, but also with experience from China and other parts of the world.

Project Identification and development
Norsk Energi has worked for over 15 years to build expertise in renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental improvement throughout Eastern Europe, the Russian Federation and other CIS countries. The result is a network of experts who use their local knowledge to identify JI and CDM projects. These local experts then work closely with us to develop the projects through to financing and implementation. This network and our partnership ensures that we offer potential investors projects which are both low risk and cost effective.

Business Plan / Risk assessment
The quality of the Emission Reduction Units, ERUs, (from JI projects) and the Certified Emission Reduction, CERs, (from CDM projects) you buy will depend on the risks associated with project implementation. We place a strong emphasis on identifying and developing low risk projects. We can also carry out risk assessments on projects developed by other parties to give investors assurance that the potential project has been developed in a thorough and professional manner, and will deliver the results proposed.

Preparation of the PDD
Norsk Energi can help you with each step of preparation of a Project Design Document (PPD), including the baseline study and the monitoring plan. Again, by using our network of local experts wherever possible the PDD can be prepared in the most cost effective and efficient way.

Capacity Building
Norsk Energi has carried out capacity building courses on JI and CDM targeting project owners and project developers representing municipal and private enterprises, as well as NGOs and Universities. The success of the capacity building is ensured by the identification and development of real JI /CDM projects as an integrated part of the program.

Environmental Impact Analysis
Our environmental experts assess the impacts of the project activity. As this has to be carried out using the procedures of the host country, our local network of experts can once again prove invaluable in liaising with the Focal Point for JI and Designated National Authority for CDM.
