Defence & Security » ELOP-DolphiScan AS

Elop-DolphiScan AS is located in Moelv, a small town about 150 Km north of Oslo Airport. In October 2009 the Company Elop AS changed name to Elop-DolphiScan AS after taking over the DolphiScan technology.

Elop is well established in the Norwegian market for ”Cradle to grave” traceability by Machine Readable Information (MRI). 1D, 2D codes and RFID as well as the new requirements from Department of Defence and ratified NATO standards on Item Unique Identification. (IUID). Another business segment is Camera- & Laser based quality control in production processes. System integration and after delivery service is a part of the activity. After the merge with Dolphiscan technology the new company will have an important part of its future business towards Ultrasound applications based on the novel Technology developed by DolphiScan.

The first installation in Norway to meet the Mil std 130N on marking, verification / validation and data management of parts.

Imaging by novel Ultrasound Transducer Technology

  • Lifecycle Traceability
  • Medical applications
  • NDT (None Destructive Testing)

LOCUS – cradle to grave traceability.
The WORLD’S FIRST NON-CONTRAST DATA MATRIX (DMx) (2D BARCODE), Reader.

What is LOCUS?
The LOCUS Reader is based upon Novel Ultrasound Technology for imaging and decoding of DMx symbols. The hand- held unit can read shiny, contaminated, discoloured, painted (Read Through Paint) or hidden codes. The unit is USB connected to PC / network.

Industry Standards
Item Unique Identification (IUID) is a global standard for life cycle identification and tracing of parts according to MIL-std 130N, ATA Spec. 2000, (Air Transport Association), AIAG B4 and B17 (Automotive Industry Action Group),NASA 6002,6003 and NATO (Stanag 2290) specification under ratification.

“Ultrasound” replaces optical reading. The DolphiScan patented ultrasound transducer design in combination with state of the art electronics and in-house developed signal processing algorithms, provides fast and secure decoding under conditions where optical readers are not suitable.

Competitive Advantages
Part identifiers are routinely damaged and unreadable with optical camera technology when subjected to harsh operational and overhaul processes.
Solved by LOCUS
Parts become discoloured when subjected to high temperatures and covered with combustion contaminants and fluids.
Solved by LOCUS
Many parts are protected with coatings, but due to reading problems the full benefit of the UID will not be obtained until the DPM code can be read through paint.
Solved by LOCUS
Many materials are shiny or have properties that make it difficult to obtain optical contrast.

Medical Application.
DolphiMed will develop medical diagnostics equipment based upon DolphiScan Technology. A high Frequency, high resolution transducer for 3 Dimentional analyses of skin is under development.

Hand Held Instrument for NDT None Destructive Testing and Inspection-measuring
Typical use of multi-element transducer developed by Elop-DolphiScan: 3 Dimentional analyses of Polymers, Composites and Metal for flaw and crack detection, Aerofoil- and delaminating inspection. Reinforced plastic, Honeycomb structures, Graphite Composites, Urethane foams. Future developments will include Air coupled inspection with flexible front end design for effective
area scanning.”
